Rock Island County Forest Preserve District
The Niabi Zoo is owned and operated by the Rock Island County Forest Preserve District. There are two interconnected groups that have oversight responsibilities for the Zoo. The Forest Preserve Commission is the governing body of the Rock Island County Forest Preserve District. This 25-member Commission is responsible for overseeing and approving all, policies, budgets, procedure, etc. that are presented by the Forest Preserve Executive Committee. The Forest Preserve Executive Committee is responsible for the establishment of all, policies, budgets, procedures etc. And their presentation to the Forest Preserve Commission for approval.
The Community Advisory Board “CAB” is made up of 9 to 15 community leaders appointed by the Forest Preserve Executive Committee with strong interest and ties to the Zoo. This is a diverse and committed group of volunteers that bring a wide array of technical and organizational skills together to help the zoo and its staff proactively meet challenges, assist in fundraising, share specialized expertise in finance, marketing, facilities planning, and education.The CAB also plays an integral role as a conduit for information about the zoo both to and from their communities.
