Junior Zoo Keeper

What is a Zoo Volunteer? What does a Zoo    Volunteer do?

Volunteers for the Zoo can help in a variety of places throughout the Zoo, from education to animal areas.

New volunteers must fill out an application, attend a volunteer introduction class and be accepted into the program before they can start to volunteer.

Some examples of how you can help the Zoo:

In the Education department

Special Events- help with games and activities
Summer/Day Camps, Home school classes, and Zoo Tot classes- help organize classes and activities
You can also attend classes this fall to become a Interpreter

Interpreters can be:

Rovers- interpreting at exhibits throughout the Zoo

Tour Guide- leading groups through the Zoo
Animal Handler- learn to bring out certain animals in our collection

In the animal department

Animal Care - must be mature, responsible people who are willing to “get dirty” during their duties. Requires a negative TB test

Enrichment volunteers- will design and institute enrichment activities for the animal collection under direct supervision from the keepers
